Recently, I have signed for the army, and then filed a 'request for removal from DEP form.' ...?

I am told this is all I have to do, and that it doesn't matter either way, if the form goes through or not, I will not be expected to show up on my shipdate, and I will not be penalized legally for it. Is this true, or should I pursue further details from the recruiter, who has proven to be a liar thus far? Please spare me the 'you don't deserve to be...i don't want anyone like you in the arm-...it's s like you that make our count-...' I've heard it all and am just looking for factual answers. THANKS in ADVANCE!!!
