ur prolly playing people who have been playing the game for a long time and use stradegies such stealth rock, spikes, toxic spikes and have pokemon that are walls, physical barriers, attackers etc. the best method i found was playing little kids that leveled up their pokemon using rare candies from an action replay. their pokemon weren't EV trained at all which made them really easy to defeat. I'm guessing you probably did the same thing.
