If your card is eaten by the machine you generally dont have to worry about fraud. You did the right thing by advising the bank straight away. They should give you a file number which allows you to verufy that the lost card has been notified to them at a specific time and date. After notification you are less likely to be responsible for fraudulent transactions. I would complain - get a complaint number to make sure it is not simply forgotten and always ask for the name of the person you are speaking to.
